Front Gardens of Kensal Rise by Roseby Franklin |

I have a beautiful front garden. It is the prettiest garden ever. The big tree in the middle is an olive tree but sadly we can't eat the olives because they have to be specially prepared in order to eat them. We have climbing clematis and English roses. I like them because they are beautiful; they smell nice too in the summer. The roses climb over the front door and make it look like an archway. They make people feel welcome and happy. My mum hangs wind chimes that make lovely noises when the wind blows in the roses. I like having my front garden because it's a beautiful thing. I've seen other's people's garden and they keep them differently. I've taken photo's to show this. But front gardens are important for other reasons apart from beauty. In the soil there are bugs that help the soil stay healthy like worms and beetles and healthy soil makes healthy plants. Plants are good for insects like bee's butterflies, caterpillars and snails. Bees make honey for us to eat, they need nectar from the plants and flowers. Birds eat insects. If people have concrete gardens the birds will die because there will be no bugs. So birds need twigs and leaves to make their homes. They are called nests and they provide shelter and warmth and somewhere to lay their eggs. The trees help us breath and it's sad because in concrete gardens the trees can't grow and lots of people don't know that if there aren't any trees we can' survive. When you have a concrete garden and it rains it will cause floods but people with flowers and trees and grass will soak up the rain and it will prevent flooding. In the future perhaps people will be given encouragement to strip the concrete off the garden and even if it is just plain soil it is better for the environment and us. |

This is my front garden, nice isn't it! It is where bugs live and where plants grow and it is lovely to walk out of in the morning to get to school. |
But people in my street have gardens that look like this can you believe it! Nothing grows there and get this. This garden is one of the clean ones, half the people leave their rubbish in their garden lying around.

This sign is very wrong. I don't know why they've called themselves Forrest Driveways. You can't grow a forest once they've concreted over your garden. Would they be as popular if they called themselves Concrete Driveways? |

This is one of their grrrreat forest driveways. Just look at this fabulous forest. I can't see a single tree – can you? |
This is an arch over a door in a house; it looks like it was made at the begging of the 20 th century. It is very rare to see carving like this in London .
This is another type of an interesting house it is called an arts and crafts house, it looks like it was built in the 1920's.
